"Off to play a quick game of street dice"

The Anti-DC cracks me up. And no, it's not simply because she actually read my blog once (the proof is in the pudding, my friends), though I'll admit that didn't hurt. In all honesty, I read her blog long before she happened to read mine. If you've ever lived in DC, visited DC, schooled in DC, or formed some biased opinions of DC without having ever lived/visited this political wasteland, her blog is totes for you. Because it's all true.

Anyway, blog love aside, I just read her post, "spring is here! dc sheds its pants! ew." and I just had to share it with you... mostly because I was a victim of the dreaded legging, and I'm still living it down. Yes... still.
The humiliation heaped upon me by so-called "friends" and "concerned co-workers" was enough to make me too embarrassed to wear them in the privacy of my tiny studio.
Although, I'll admit it, it wasn't enough to get me to throw them out... until now.

Thanks, Marissa.

Oh dear. It seems that little boy McDermott should have read my post on those vile crocs ...perhaps he'd have two big toenails, instead of one:

Jodi McDermott and her 4-year-old son, Rory, have a warning for young wearers of a certain popular shoe: Beware of Crocs on the escalator. McDermott, of Vienna, blames the colorful rubber footwear for an injury Rory received at Tysons Galleria last week. His shoe became caught in one of the mall escalators, nearly ripping the nail from the child's big toe.

Now people, I get it... they're comfy! They're easy! They're cheap! They're colorful. But again, I implore you, unless you are my godson Jack (Who looks so dang cute in them but stays far, far away from escalators), don't. wear. those. vile. crocs. Just don't.

You could inadvertently knock-out the power to one's respirator, say. Or inadvertently mate them with the other loathable shoe-fad, the Ugg, and create the Crugg. Shudder. I'm just looking out for you, friends. And I know you have strong feelings in favor of this fad, too. And, truth be told, they are adorable on little, tiny kids. But they're just so dang annoying! And ugly. And now dangerous. So just tread carefully. And I promise, you can laugh at my footwear decisions, too. I can take it.

What a Croc!

Vile, ugly shoe.
Loathsome rubber turn-off.
Smelly, juvenile orthopedic disaster.

I do NOT like it when people wear crocs. Unless you are 12 years old or younger. Otherwise, act your age. But even so, even though I don't particularly enjoy the way they look, I'll just accept it because I had some questionable shoe choices in my childhood (cough cough strawberry shortcake velcro shoes cough cough).

So imagine my delight when WaPo did an article whose headline read, "Soft Soles Fall Fashion Victim to Escalators." Okay, okay... isn't there something better to write about - you may ask? Probably. But the damage is serious:

Crocs, flip-flops, sandals and other soft-soled shoes that get caught in the hard teeth of escalators are causing an increasing number of problems at Metro this summer. Twenty-five objects were stuck in escalators last month, most of them "shoe entrapments," officials said. On a particularly bad day this month, a shoe was stuck at a Huntington Station escalator at 11 a.m., one was wedged at Metro Center in the afternoon and another was ensnared at Farragut West at 6:30 p.m.
True fact.

And then the DCist chimed in with their hatred and concern for the citizens of our great district... and I felt vindicated. I mean, that's the rule: when two independent news sources validate your opinion, it becomes fact. True story.

PS. If you search for "crocs" in google images, you may come across this:
This, however, is not what I meant by croc - just so we're clear.

Update: Even my favorite blog is in on my hateration. Thanks Heather.
