Another flip-flop for Giuliani

What big flip-flops you have!

Mr. "America's Mayor" himself has declared that he's cheering for the Red Sox. Say what? He's a well-known-long-time Yankees fan (eww, my fingers just burned when I typed that), and everyone knows it. So what, pray tell, is his reasoning?
"I am an American league fan."

Riiiiight. I'm sure it has nothing to do with being in Boston today, and New Hampshire later today to - you guessed it - fundraise. Jonathan Martin notes that similar logic implies that:
...Auburn fans would cheer for 'Bama in the BCS, Dookies for Tar Heels in the Final Four and Skins backers for the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.

Not. Going. To. Happen.

To be fair, Giuliani claims:
"I am not just saying that because I am in Massachusetts. If I am in Colorado in the next week or two you will see that I have the courage to tell the people of Colorado the same thing."

Again, I say riiiiight. But something tells me you won't be in Colorado until after the Red Sox sweep the Rockies so, yeah. Run with it, Rudy. Raise those New England dollars as fast as you can.

(Go Sox.)

I am actually going to have to agree with Jonathan Martin's analysis. This is not to say that I don't think that Giuliani is a flip-flopping, however, I do understand the desire to pull for a team in your conference, even if your team lost. Please see Cajun Boy's post from today about this very subject (fifth paragraph down):

I'm just saying...

Actually, JM agreed with me.

But to address your point, I disagree. If - God forbid - the yanks were playing the Rockies instead of the sox, I would pull for the Rockies. Basically, I'd pull for anyone but the Yankees. There is no league loyalty with them. And any true fan, of the Yankees, Red Sox, or whomever, would, should, agree. What's the equivalent with LSU?

My bad. I did not read Jonathan Martin's article, and you left out a valuable part of his quote "Right, and I'm sure..." which would have clued me in that y'all both disagree with what Giuliani is doing.

LSU does not have a rival the way that you all have. And I really would pull for another SEC team if they made it to the championship game over us. But maybe that's just the SEC. I don't know. I guess that there's a difference in loyalties in different sports and different levels. And this is getting to be too much to talk about over comments. I also think that the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is too extensive to compare to any other rivalry. Y'all are in a league of your own.
